The Surat Technical Education & Research Society (Popular as STERS) was established in 1968. The Society is registered under “The Bombay Public Trust Act-1950 and the Societies Registration Act – 1860”. The Society was basically involved in imparting Textile Education..

The Society has constructed school building, New building and Staff-Quarters on the land generously donated by Late Fulchandbhai Vakharia. To commemorate the memory of the Donor, this complex has been named as Smt. Kalavatibem Fulchandbhai Vakharia Education Complex.

With the generous donation from Man – Made Weaving Industry Well – Fare & Relief Trust’s “The Surat Art Silk Cloth Manufacturer’s Association” (Popular as SASCMA) has established SASCMA fashion designing and Apparel centre.

Up till now the Society was mainly engaged in providing training facilities in Textile sector. Considering the need for efficient working of various Industries, Banks, insurance and other private and public sector, Visionary Board of Directors of SASCMA also decided to train personnel in the area of Commerce-Management – Marketing etc. Keeping this fact in mind SASCMA has further generously donated to start SASCMA English Medium Commerce College from June- 2013 affiliated with Veer Narmad South Gujarat University Today there are about 1500 students studying in FY-SY & TY B.Com.

The Society has well equipped library which is named as “Hiralal Manchharam Bachkaniwala Library” for which Himson group has donated considerable amount. The Society is also having STATE – OF – THE ART SEMINAR HALL named as S. P. B. Seminar Hall with financial support from The Surat People’s Co-Operative Bank.

The State Government is taking various steps to promote garment manufacturing industry in Gujarat. In order to meet the demand for trained manpower for apparel industry situated in South Gujarat region, the Institute has created training facilities for Fashion Design & Apparel Production as an extension to our present activities in this centre Society conducts. Sewing Machine Operator and , Apparel Production Supervisor course.

The embroidery business is also developed in and around Surat. To provide trained personnel to this section, the Institute has installed 4 Head embroidery machine. Training is provided for Embroidery Machine Operation & Designing and Punching on Computer. For Designing and punching training on Computer, Society has purchased Wilcom software.
